The Byes is a beautiful 2 km / 1½ mile long stretch of attractive riverside parkland at the heart of Sidmouth. Friends of The Byes work in partnership with East Devon District Council parks department and land owners the National Trust, to administer sponsorship for specimen trees, memorial benches and a Wildflower Meadow in The Byes, in memory of or dedication to a loved one.
Specimen Tree sponsorship is £350 for a 3 - 4m tree, Bench sponsorship costs for a solid oak bench with back, £1000, solid recycled plastic bench, £800, solid oak bench with no back, £550, pine picnic bench £500. Wildflower Meadow sponsorship is £100. In addition fruit tree sponsorship is £50. These costs include siting and maintenance.
The oak benches are hand carved by local craftsman from solid oak. The trees are specimen natives or wildlife friendly non natives. The Wildflower Meadow seeds are great for wildlife and the fruit trees help to create a Community Orchard for enjoyment by all.
A plaque with a name and personal message can be installed on the bench or attached to the tree. For the wild flower sponsorship a plaque will be attached to a display board near the entrance to Sid Meadow, The Byes.
The trees, benches and meadow are maintained by Friends of The Byes and EDDC
